A one day suspension in elementary school for throwing wet toilet paper balls into the open window of a much hated assistant principal.

No, but I should have. So much of school was useless though I could not know at the time.

We are treated as baby elephants.

Quote:
So inevitably I think about the famous story of how they train baby elephants in the circus. They take them when they are still small and tie a strong rope around their necks and attach the rope to a secure pole. The baby elephants naturally try to walk away and are stopped by the rope. They pull and push and twist and turn and eventually figure out that they just aren’t strong enough to break free of their shackles, so they stop resisting and just stay where they are. The next time they tie up the baby elephants they try to break away once again, pulling on the rope to see if they can go free. When they figure out that once again it is futile, they stop pulling and settle down and stay where they are.
The same thing happens over and over until eventually, when the rope is put over their heads, they no longer pull and push and try to break free because they know it is futile. That is why in captivity you can walk by a circus and see giant elephants standing passively with a rope tied around their necks that isn’t attached to anything at all.
The elephant becomes so accustomed to being held back by the rope, that merely the rope itself keeps the animal in check. If only they knew how powerful they really are. If only they realized that by the time they have grown up, even a rope “secured” to a pole can no longer contain them.

Never suspended or expelled. A good number of detentions in high school but it never rose to the next level.

Yes, a couple of times in middle school.

I was no fun to have in class between ages 11-13.

One in-school suspension for skipping classes and one out-of-school suspension for getting caught smoking in the bathroom.

Never.

I was given detention for skipping in 6th grade. It was study hall. I had been absent the previous week and my science teacher pulled me out to make up a project. He talked to my study hall teacher, told him he was taking me, and I was still marked absent. A few days later, I got a pink detention slip and about had a panic attack. Luckily, science teacher cleared it up in a matter of minutes.

I was the typical honor-roll goody-two-shoes.

Recently went thru my stash of memorabilia..Old photos, cards, yearbooks. Found my senior report card! I laughed hysterically. It was registered that I missed 90 days of school!! I was laughing because I was part of a co-op program approved by our board of education. Two weeks class, two weeks on a job site learning the trade. So they listed our time on the job site as absent. I would think that would be grounds for expulsion ...But instead I got extra credit for the co op program and paychecks to boot .
In 10th grade I did get detention, which actually was fun! Our teacher was hilarious and got us back on track.
