What rights do teachers have?
What rights do 7 year olds have?
Should he have been cuffed?
Are the parents laying the ground work for their lawsuit?

Can the school system and the police emerge from this with their reputation untarnished?

What do you do with a child who is repeatedly punching a teacher? He looked a little tall for a 7 year old - this isn't like a 3 year old punching.

He was able to get the teacher down on the ground and still didn't stop the attack.

I don't know if they have video of the incident, but to me, that's a real concern. And mother isn't helping.

I hope this little sh*t learns his lesson. He needs a butt whopping, not support from the media.

If I had hit a teacher in school I'd best not have gone home. The parents (?) need to be looked at too.

The dad said, "We have to make justice."

Ummm, yeah, for the teacher who was attacked, punched, knocked to the ground, and had her hair pulled by your out of control son.

So he's been suspended for 10 days. I think if I were principal of that school I would require a meeting between the parents, the teacher, the principal and the child where it is made clear to the parents they have to support the school, and help teach this child not to assault teachers. And I think if that can't be accomplished, they'd be in their rights to expel him.

This isn't his first rodeo.

This is the second time that he assaulted a teacher and he only received a ten day suspension? I drank alcohol on school grounds and i got 5 days for it.....SMH

Anyways, this boy needs to be expelled. He has some serious mental issues that are only going to get worse. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him in twenty years on the news due to a mass murder suicide.

follow up article here:

Boy handcuffed and Baker Acted for hitting teacher | Miami Herald

not sure the child is out of control, might be the mother.

*additionally she publicized the work she did as an independent producer and the website for the media company has been temporarily shut down.

of course she would sue. I wonder if the teacher would sue the mother for HER CHILD physically abusing her?

edit: "She says that her son always dreamed of being a policeman, but these days “he told me he does not want to be because the police are bad."

Oh lord.....

As a retired middle school principal, I have no problem with the restraint and arrest, based on what is in the 2 articles cited. After 33 years in teaching and administration, I never saw that level of behavior on the part of a student. I don't care if he is 7.
