Background, I live in Ireland and last year, I got 20 points in my Leaving Cert (equivalent of UK, GSCE and US, HS diploma). There are six subjects that are compulsory (maximum 600 points, 100 points for an A(95%) in each advanced level subject). I failed all 6 subjects and got an F but I had another subject that I got an E in which gave me 20 points, barely a pass.

People have said here that you can't fail it but in many places apparently, getting F's in core subjects (Maths, English) is the equivalent of not having a diploma/dropping out. Is that true?

I am really, truly confused. Based on the coherency of your post, which indicates at least average intelligence, I do not understand how you could so spectacularly bomb your exams. What happened? Does Ireland allow retakes?

Some people get nervous and freeze taking tests. I usually don't have that problem, but the first time I took the SAT for the first 20 minutes of the test I was so tense it felt like my muscles were locked up. I could hardly write. Fortunately it just seemed to go away after that.

I was thinking the same thing.

Ireland does allow retakes and that's what I'm probably going to do. I just froze up and sat there for 2.5 hours.

Even from someone coming from a country where failing courses is the most normal thing you can imagine... I think 6 courses is too much. I don't want to judge you severely and is not my business but what happened to fail 6 courses? I don't know how things work in Ireland but according to my experience you should have retake exams and if you work hard you can achieve that but you will have a really tough time with 6 courses... Believe me or not I think is possible, yes, I have seen every kind of tough times in my life and others life, everything is possible if you believe in you and work hard. Ask your professors/teachers to retake exams, that you are really interested in passing them, that you believe you can do it, etc... Come on!, nobody else in this forum knows how is to fail over and over and overcome whatever in the life is happening. I even repeated an entire year in "high school" (that was a trully bad year) and I am now an Engineer becoming a Masters Engineer. I believe in you, I know you can do it!

In college of whatever nation you need to have a certain amount of equivalencies and pass them for college. After you get your Associates, you are cleared and have to watch your GPA.

GPA is calculated by the amount of course like

WI = writing intensive including art history courses.
Languages = French, Chinese, etc
Mathematics, English, Science, History ( four major subjects AKA liberal arts )
Psychology related course.

However failing those course will also drop your average. Failing other course will also lower your GPA. So do not think about

Anxiety? You might need to see a specialist. Anxiety sucks and can ruin your life unless you manage it.

It's not equivalent to dropping out, but it can have the same result of not earning a diploma, certainly. Earning a diploma indicates that you have at least a passable knowledge of the material presented. If you flunk, there is not that indication that you have a passable knowledge (even if you do). Therefore, no diploma/certificate.

I have no idea how Ireland may be different, but, linguistically, you "drop out" when you stop going to school. Normally, if you fail, you re-take the class.

The freezing up is odd. Have you never taken major tests before? Many people get anxious, but not usually catatonic.
