State attorney declines to prosecute

The Florida school principal caught on video paddling a 6-year-old girl did not break any laws, the Florida State Attorney found after conducting a review of the Clewiston incident. No charges will be filed, CBS 12 reports. Central Elementary School staffers say the girl purposely damaged school computer equipment.

That story makes me sick. The child is six snd yes, I know she broke a computer... but I bet there’s a better way of handling it than hitting her with a piece of wood.

Who wants to bet that if the mother disciplined the child this way, that child would removed from the home and the mother charged.

The state would be bringing charges in this case, but they would be against me for beating the crap out of this lady with her own paddle.

Interesting case. Whoever might be up in arms about this should consider, that paddling her with her mother's approval is a lot better than calling the police and citing her for malicious vandalism. Other school districts have called cops on grade-school children for far less, and the kids have ended up with a police record.

This child needs mental health care. I hope the principal had a talk with the mother and explained that.

Paddling or any physical assault on a child by an education authority went the way of the dinosaurs sometime back in the late 20th Century. The principal did the right thing here, in requiring the mom to be present, so he wouldn't end up in civil rights court, or some such. I can imagine, that the ACLU would love to swoop down on a case like this.

So, only "the state" can discipline a child ? It's still abuse, no matter who does it. A child can learn what's right and what's wrong without the use of violence.

There is no way in hell I would allow anyone at a school to use their judgement in determining if my kid needs spanking or not.

I feel as though we are missing a fair amount of context in this situation. The principal must have felt that she had the mother's approval to spank the child like that. But, apparently, the mom was too intimidated to speak up and object.

I will be honest, that the video of the spanking makes me feel very, very uncomfortable. 2 trusted adults at the school, one holds the child's hands down while the other one admonishes the girl and spanks her with a board as the speechless mother just stands there and watches.

That's a pretty terrifying scenario for a 6 year old kid.

33 years in education, and I never once felt that I needed to paddle a kid.

Maybe I felt that way because of Loretta Young.

I managed to raise two fine, young men without ever using a paddle on them.

There are much better ways, IMO.

Who was video taping this? Was it the mom?
