OTOH, you can look up where the regular public schools stand and some are doing quite well.

Among the top ranked in Illinois, are Chicago Public magnet schools, but Libertyville High school which is not a magnet is #10

My kids old high school Evanston Twnshp is #27 in Illinois and is #526 in the national rankings. They have a large minority population and a large economically disadvantaged population.

My grandchildren's school (Glenda Dawson High School) is #127 in the Texas rankings and #1169 in the national rankings. They have fewer economically disadvantaged students and more minority (but the minority is more Asian and Hispanic than black).

Interesting, imo. Of course the testing is what they usually go on, but they use graduation rate and reading and math proficiency measures as well.

Which school would you rather your kid attend?
A school that was 69% immigrants and 90% of those kids had parents who barely finished high school BUT that school spent $18K per kid per year
OR
A school that 90% of the kids had college educated, STEM parents, most with master degrees BUT the school only spent $10K per kid per year?

I don't think the amount of money spent is necessarily and indication of a better school.
