What would you do if this happened to your child? In most states, you would have absolutely no recourse. Educators are held to different standards for abuse than parents. It will be interesting to see how this investigation shakes out. Despite the injuries, this school district denies the need to change its policy.

sounds like extreme punishment for a cell phone, what kid doesnt have a cell phone at school with them. I for one want my daughter to have her cell with her at all times, just in case shes need to call me or her mom.
sounds like she won't be bringing a cell phone to school again. Perhaps if children feared the consequences for their actions more we wouldn't have such problems in our schools. And I have no doubt the mother exaggerated. I feared my mother more than anyone and that fear alone kept me from doing wrong things. Kids these days get away with murder, literally, because its never their fault. They're never held responsible.
I don't know what I'd do.... we don't send our kids to school, and I can add that to my very long list of reasons why. That is child abuse committed by a power hungry little man.
whats gets me was that this child is/was a honor student, and for him to do this in front her mother?? i mean ive been lifted off the ground by a teacher when i was paddled, but i mean i deserved it, not some petty thing like a phone. gee how about writing sentences?

yea, thats what the article said on the link..personally i wouldnt have let my daughter had a paddling or whatever they called it anyway for that.
oh and i agree with ya, i would have prob been arrested for hitting the principal too
When a student needs paddling, I think that the parents should do it in the principal's office. After examining the evidence and describing the "offense" the parents and administration should agree on the correct punishment.
If you really want to punish a 15-year-old girl, make their mom hang out with them in the classroom for a day.
