I was wondering if any current teachers watched the Netflix series "13 Reasons Why", which is fictional, but about teen suicide, bullying, sex, drugs, etc. in a modern high school.
I've been out of it long enough to wonder how realistic the series is. If it is realistic, how can we ever fix it?
I talked to my students about it and they thought it brought up important issues but wasn't particularly realistic. They seemed to agree that it so strongly exaggerated and dramatized teen experiences to the point that it "jumped the shark" for them.
