If your family financial planning isn't budgeting for some sort of private school at this point, I think you need to reevaluate. The public schools will become no-go zones for ambitious people.

I was playing fast and loose above. Our kids both attended private K-12. That said if the nonsense above expands parents of high-achievers are going to have to make some tough decisions.
The really ridiculous part is that there WILL be accelerated math at 11th grade. There is no sudden acceleration in learning. It's not by an on-off switch. Especially in mathematics, everything depends on previous learning, like climbing a ladder.
What ever happened to the idea that you teach to the level of each child? You cannot teach special education in the same way as general education and by the same token, you really cannot teach the most high learners in the same way that you teach the general learners.
What a pile of crap. I am SO glad my grandchildren are home-schooled.
And the "we're all equal" dumbing down of the public school system continues.
Double ditto. Oldest grandson (7) is enrolled in a private school for gifted children, presently taking classes on line. He just completed fifth grade math, and the third grade in his other subjects. His math instructor, who has evaluated him closely, says he'll probably begin pre-algebra some time next semester. He loves math (especially geometry). When I fix him a sandwich, he asks for it cut in "isosceles" triangles! He was able to enter Kindergarten at four (unheard of in his district's public school), and skipped the second grade. DD was able to search out a retired math instructor to "mentor" him this summer...DD and son in law are not wealthy, but they manage to find the resources to benefit their kids as much as they can (and get criticized for it).
They're sticking with this curriculum for younger grandson (4), who's recently passed the testing for early Kindergarten enrollment. He's performing at a first grade level in all subjects, and has an IQ of 136.
DD and son in law are disgusted with their home district...there is no elementary gifted program. It's all about sports, sports, sports.

It's the parents fault.
Why aren't parents who send kids to public school protesting this nonsense?

Where ARE THEY?!?!
I'll tell you what happens to parents who protest the nonsense. They are doxxed, harrassed, and even hacked into. Look up what happened to Loudoun County parents who objected to the CRT education. They are looked upon as "the enemy," and are to be stopped in whatever way is necessary.
