What can you tell me about the KIPP schools? There are few in my state but all I know is that they were started by TFA (Teach for America) alum & that it is more of a college-bound lifestyle (for the kids) if anything (if the kids need you in the middle of the night, you are required to help them)...any thoughts on the schools? I am looking to possibly apply to one as a what seems to be a healthy alternative to Teach for America.
I actually just briefly heard about these schools in a masters class I am taking. They are discussed in the book Outliers (unsure of the author). I'd be curious to hear more about them as well.
Malcolm Gladwell is the author of Outliers and indeed devotes a chapter to KIPP in the book. They are schools that tend to be in high risk areas and provide a very rigorous, structured program with extended hours and school year.
