FOXNews.com - Ohio High School Accused of Promoting Political Agenda in Classroom
An Ohio high school teacher's giving students job applications for a Democratic organization that included suggested radical reading material has raising concerns of indoctrination in the classroom.
The government teacher at Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio, handed out forms recruiting students to intern for Organizing for America, a grassroots organization with direct ties to the Democratic National Committee and the successor organization for Obama for America.

And would you be saying they "indoctrinating" if they were passing out Bibles or "Tea Party" conventions or Sarah Palin books?

Doubt it.

The Principal said it was a mistake and against school policy and apologized. If anyone was "indoctrinated" I'll eat my hat.

Oh, for goodness sake, my husband earned credit for volunteering to canvas for Reagan during a high school political science class (in Ohio, no less). Nobody complained about indoctrination. And, we wonder why our young people are so apathetic about politics! We do everything we can to discourage them from participating.

Such internships are highly desirable and rarely available to high school students. It's possible that the teacher came across this opportunity with a liberal organization but no similar internships were available with local conservative orgs. I'd like to know the circumstances around this "indoctrination" and what, exactly, was said to students. Really, though, what's the uproar about. Was anyone harmed?

It's easy to identify the dems here.

Teachers have absolutely no business stressing his or her own political beliefs in a classroom. All aspects of politics should be taught without prejudice.

Or, with an honest warning that your views are biased.

But even with such a warning, that teacher's actions were over the top - and would not have been "fixed" by offering equivalent applications from the other side.

He might not, but it would have been no better NOR worse.

It's the wrong way to go.

If you mean me you loose.

It's not a Rep/Dem issue or even a Left/Right issue. Stuff like this, where one view is presented without the other, is part of human nature. And even in a school setting, where great pains are taken to be "fair and balanced" things don't always work out. Nobody was hurt, there was no harm done, it was just certain people feeling left out. AND they apologized. It's a non issue. If not for our hyper-sensitive society where everyone is on the prowl for something to get upset about this wouldn't even have been heard of and just handled quietly...as it should have been and how most other things are.

Per story:
Quote:
The government teacher at Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio, handed out forms recruiting students to intern for Organizing for America, a grassroots organization with direct ties to the Democratic National Committee and the successor organization for Obama for America.
Included on the forms was a suggested reading list that included Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" and Organizing for America's mission to build on the "movement that elected President Obama by empowering students across the country to help us bring about our agenda of change."
No Republican equivalent was offered to the students, according to Perry schools' Superintendent John Richard.
There is no way this wasn't the agenda of the teacher. There is nothing the teacher did that indicated anything fair and balanced.

The democrats are reaching and attempting to enlist the young for their use.

There was NOTHING innocent about the teacher using this as a tool. Kids are impressionable, and this teacher was preying on them.
