Maybe if you would stop calling people names just because they don't agree with you, you might just come across a little better!!!!!!!!!
As long as someone pays school taxes they have a right to say what they want even if they don't have kids in school..
I don't but told my grand daughter it would be nice if the president talked to them about staying in school and going on to college.
Maybe next time Obama does something he will check how it is worded before he puts it out there to the public.. Then he wont have to re-word it....
Nah I feel compelled to let the negative throwers understand more clearly what negativity is. I am well aware how I come across and hopefully THEY got it correctly. Not intended to you by any stretch but to the ignorant supidity mongers that we both know do exist. Yup Dororthy there is no Santa but there are a bunch of ignorant people out there. Not you but the figurative Dorothy from the expression.
P.S. the Department of Education only reworded because some are unable to read sufficiently. They probably assumed if folks got it correctly for Bush Sr they would for this POTUS also.
....We can't spoon-feed and hand-hold them all the way to graduation. We need to raise problem-solvers, analyzers, etc. If parents need to tell their children how to interpret everything, your children will always be waiting there for you to tell them how to interpret everything.
Well said.
I'm still reading through this thread, but jumped ahead to comment....I realize the speech has come & gone.
So far, I'm no fan of Obama - to put it mildly. But in order for me to form that opinion, I need to keep listening. Kids are more perceptive than we give them credit for; pro or con - let them hear the man out. Have a class debate afterwords. My 9 year old nephew is surprisingly eloquent & knowledgeable in his support of Obama. We've had some pretty mature discussions about our president, and though we still have opposing views, we have both walked away with a better understanding of the other's stance.
Keeping Obama's words from young minds is censorship...... no better than the "brainwashing" fears, IMO.
I believe THE PRESIDENT has every right to address anyone he wants. It's a great learning experience for the kids, regardless of the political leanings of their parents. It's not a controversial issue at this point, he is OUR PRESIDENT and should be given the respect the office deserves.

Well put, piperspal. I too am currently not very happy with Obama, but I think it sends a scary message to our kids when even adults won't hear out our President. Next will my kids say they prefer not to hear out our Principal, the police, ME as their parent?
I also agree your comment on censorship. . . . . .thoughtful and makes sense.
I think it's really sad that people don't have a problem with propaganda coming straight out of the White House to our impressionable young people.
Yeah! That speech was all about how Obama wants kids to sign up for membership in the Socialist Party, after forced abortions paid for by a single-payer healthcare system. Possibly a trip to Kenya for a gay marriage to Bill Clinton (presided over by Mary Jo Kopechne) was mentioned, too.
Oh. Wait. It wasn't.
Your Leni Riefenstahl fantasies have been put to the lie by the actual speech. Get over it already.
I wonder if the schools in South Carolina would require permission or not allow students to hear Congressman Joe Wilson to speak? Probably I suspect he passes their litmus test.
To my knowledge, they didnt require permission in my area. Personally though, as a student.... I didnt watch, nor was I interested in doing so.
Id rather hear Wilson speak than Obama. At least he tells it like it is.
