Anyone sign up or know a student that has signed up for any of the free profiling sites that claim results? My son is a standout sophomore athlete and has been contacted by a few of the sites that got his name from newspapers. We have not registered him for any yet as we are doing a bit of research before we see if its worth it. Free is good as everybody knows. But I do want to make sure they are reputable sites first. I know that the ones that don't even mention academics are out the window because we do know that college coaches demand academic information.

berecruited.com
varsityedge.com
vivolve.com
cpoa.com

Seems they all have their little pitch but I am looking for someone/anyone with experience from any of these sites or some sites that work better.

Again, I realize most advertise free aspects of the site, but I don't want to wasted our time.

As a sophomore, shouldn't he be concentrating on his academics? If he is any good, his coaches will be sure he gets a look.

Default Academics

Actually, he is a straight A student so he does very well concentrating on academics. My concern is that his coach has a history of not helping the kids get the attention they need to get many options in college. Thank you for your concern!

LOL... Funny how people assume good athletes aren't also concentrating on academics. If you do find any good sites, please post this info as my son may be facing the same issue in a few years.... Maybe you could also find some info on the NCAA site?

This is all BS. If your son is any good, the NCAA coaches would be contacting him, not the other way around.

Every single HS sport has national rankings and scout ratings. Believe me, if he's good, he'd be recruited.

I think it's not uncommon for HS athletes to have a sports portfolio much as someone going into to an arts program has to have a portfolio. I was not aware of this until recently when my friends son's were looking at colleges. Each boy had semi-professional video's made of them playing and spent their school breaks playing at showcase tournaments. Two of the three boys also had high gpa's and are now majoring in Engineering at well known schools. All three guys were aware that their sport was not going to carry them past HS and were not looking for D-1 schools.

Put together a five-minute highlight tape of your son's best plays and send the tape to the schools. Also, make sure that your son is able to attend as many summer camps on college campuses as he can possibly attend. These suggestions come straight from a recruiting expert (not me, but told to me).
