Can anyone who homeschools tell me if there are any particluar towns or cities with lots of homeschoolers? We will be homeschooling and have the chance to relocate over the next year. We'd love to land in a place where there are lots of other homeschoolers. (As an fyi, we are not homeschooling for religious reasons so we are not looking for homeschoolers w/any particular religous affiliation).

I've lived in CT and FL while homeschooling. FL has a lot more homeschoolers, but there are a sizable number of us in CT as well. From what I've heard, it is not always easy to find a secular homeschool community in some areas, especially the Southern states....What states or area of the country are you considering?

We are in massachusetts now and would go anywhere in New England, PA, down the east coast to as far as NC. That said, we have a lot of family in NE/NY/NJ area and would prefer not to go too far south.

CT is a very easy state to homeschool in, legally speaking. The law is "educate your child," and you have the option to comply or not comply with their "suggested guidelines" for notification (most people that I know choose to opt out). There is a good-sized group on Yahoo called CT Homeschoolers Inclusive, and one in the greater New Haven area called GNNH. Those are both inclusive/secular groups.

Good luck with your move, wherever you end up!
