I recently went to Washington Dental in Juarez and I must say I was very pleased with the service. I couldn't find an oral surgeon on my dental plan and couldn't afford the work without it. I was in extreme pain with an impacted wisdom tooth! The location is less than five minutes from the downtown border and away from the central part of Juarez. Anything is risky but keep in mind that people there have to continue to live and work in spite of the violence. The violence however is between the cartels and people involved in drug trafficking. Dental work is extremely expensive here in the US and I noticed that most patients there are from the US from as far as New Mexico (Ruidoso, Albuquerque, etc.). The place is very clean, neat and organized. They pick you up and deliver you back home as soon as you're done. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found them! The pain was awful!!!! and the money in my pocket was limited.....By the way, if you visit their website you'll see that all their dentist are certified doctors of dentistry.

In my case it's from lack of options in "New" Mexico. My only other option is since I've kept my Massachusetts residence to fly back into Salem and have it done there, on MassHealth. Even the replacement.

God I hate it when people assume we must HAVE thousands of dollars just lying around and just don't WANT to spend it all on one thing, like partials and extractions.

Yes I'm a public school teacher and no people don't want to look at me let alone listen to me without TEETH. I know that's at least PART of why I get treated like I must not be qualified, like I "look" "too stupid" to have a math teaching license. Broken-out front teeth due to domestic violence and no where to get that FIXED for what I can afford, which is the same amount I pay for MEDICAL: FREE.

I think as a woman I'm safe to drive myself as far as Las Cruces.

My wife and I went the last time to the Washington Clinic probably about five years ago and were very pleased with the work they did. We stayed at an El Paso hotel out toward Las Cruces and the Clinic picked us up in the morning in a big van and took us back to the hotel in the afternoon. The dental clinic even drove us over to an optician and picked us up after we had glasses made. We been to the Clinic several times in the past few years.

Is the trip safe now? Was it safe 5 years ago? It is probably less safe now than it was five years ago but it wasn't perfectly safe at any time in my life. Risks are risks. I would much rather do the Juarez day trip now than walk down a Houston street at night.

Medical insurance costs are a joke. Not all insurance providers have dental coverage and if they do it's not that great.
Also, why should you care where people get their services from? If you have great coverage then good for you. No need to demean people.

Default Safety is not the issue

I am a Canadian who has traveled to el paso /juarez on an average of 3 times a year for the past 3 years with the goal of completing dental work and saving money. I am a single female traveler who has traveled alone. The first clinic i attended was Rio Grand. The second Clinic I attended was Nucleo Dental. Both clinics had their driver pick me up and drop me off. I have never felt like my safety was in Jeopardy. A few times I crossed the border myself from downtown to go browse the Juarez markets during the day and I have never had any problems. Perhaps Juarez was bad at some point but it seems like it has cleaned up quite a bit. I would recommend caution . Clinics are very aware of client safety and being picked up and dropped off is the best way to go.
My major concern is the choice of clinic you make. I am a Dental professional myself. I have no insurance here in Canada and my Dentist will not give me any type of discount on dental work even though i work for him. Be aware that there are many many many clinics that offer very discounted prices but do terrible work that will end up costing you more to fix. Not only that but your health may be at Risk. My fist experience with Rio Grand was Terrible. So many things went wrong i don't know where to begin.. I had my full upper teeth crowned , they didn't do it in the timeframe they had promised, the first set of crowns arrived the wrong color, the second set was the wrong size. The second set arrived at 2am... 3 hours before i left for my flight back to Canada. Yes, i stayed all day from 9 am to 2am in their clinic!! no food, no water! When i saw that the size was wrong i was told to pay up or leave with no teeth by the office clerk who took payment s( his name was Miguel-Mike but no longer works there) I was in tears and could not believe they would treat people like that. The doctor do not communicate with you. They boast to be english speaking but they are not fluent enough to explain your treatment options. The main doctor, Dr. Nitardy is an arrogant woman who lied on many occasions to cover up her clinics mess ups on my teeth. A root canal was performed by their so called specialist. Upon returning to canada one week later I had severe pain on that tooth. I took an xray and saw immediately that the tooth had abscessed and that the Canal was not removed properly. On top of that, the tooth beside that tooth had been crowned and a week later that crown cracked in half. When i called them back The answer i got was -we told you we couldn't do anything for that tooth and it had to be removed but you did not listen. That was a lie. That tooth was healthy, the only problem i had was slight occlusal dentine exposure. As a dental professional i knew that that tooth could be saved with a procedure called a root canal retreat but Dr. Nitardy refused to do so and said all she can do is remove that tooth. I demanded a refund and it wasn't until i threatened to go to the media, the american dental association, and online forums that they agreed to refund me. At the same time all my upper crowns were breaking one by one, a 4 unit bridge they placed came off a month later , that bridge eventually broke. Trust me. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE GOING TO A CLINIC!!!! Do not trust their website... those are done by professional marketing experts to lure gullable people. My dental work at Rio Grande had a 10 year warranty but when i called them back after the root canal fiasco, to tell them of the chipped upper crowns, they told me that they no longer can have me as a patient at their clinic and from then on refused any of my calls.. even though I have spent almost $10 000 at their clinic.

I went to Nucleo Dental and although this clinic is a little bit more expensive they are highly professional skilled and above average dental professionals that i would recommend to anyone. They fixed the root canal gone wrong and saved my tooth. They fixed the broken bridge but unfortunately i need to have all the uper crowns removed and my full mouth redone.

Moral of the story.. safety is not the issue.. the issue is the credibility of most of these Juarez clinics. Choose wisely and don't hesitate to contact me for more details!

Instead of asking if it's safe to have dental work done in Juarez, I think the better question should be: why is dental work (medical care, too for that matter) so expensive in the US?

It is a joke! I'm fortunate to have everything covered 100% and my wife is as well if she goes to Beaumont. I pay about $11/month for her dental but it covers maybe 50% or so.

I suspect one of the biggest costs is malpractice insurance.

One of my subordinates has a family member who is a GP doctor in the northeast US. He didn't divulge specific numbers but did say that with what he spends on insurance, he could hire a full time nurse.

For years I'd heard about cheap dental work in MX and avoided it like the plague until I personally knew people who had had work done there and could recommend a specific clinic and dentist. That's just common sense really-something that sounds too good to be true often is. But there is often a kernel of truth in any rumor, and you just have to find that kernel by getting recommendations that you trust.

I spoke with a dentist in Las Cruces who said he has seen patients come back from MX with a mouthful of mis-matched implants and other messes. While I don't expect US dentists to endorse Mexican dentistry, I don't think he was making this up. He was genuinely concerned. It would be foolish to go to a dentist there without doing research first. Anywhere there is money there will be people who try to get it from you, some the honest way and some the dishonest way.

I just had done some dental work in algodones. I am in severe pain from 5 fillings which seem to be very shallow and just preventive work. I was in no pain at all before the work. It has been two months of pain and not being able to eat. I am seeking help so far two dental clinics and one urgent care. I have not yet gotten any help for the pain. I am not trusting what they are telling me. I am afraid they do not know where the pain is coming from.
