I would have to say that there are things unique to living in the desert southwest that people living in El Paso enjoy. Hueco Tanks, Franklin and Organ Mtn recreational sites, that great steak house in the desert near Fabens, dune buggy rides, all-terrain bicycling, hang gliding, soaring, "dune boarding" etc. And of course all those attractions within a day's drive further away (in New Mexico, mostly).

Yes, the desert is nice. It's got a wide-open feeling to it - it's vast and uninhabited. The desert cools off at night even in the hottest part of summer. If you go out tent camping, if a rattlesnake crawls into your sleeping bag during the night, you're supposed to keep in mind it's only looking for warmth. You're supposed to lay perfectly still - the worst thing to do is try to get out of your sleeping bag and after the sun gets up and the air warms, the snake will crawl away.

We just pcs'd here (a week ago) and so far we love it! Mind you we arrived in the middle of rolling blackouts, water shortages and advisories. So far we haven't had any problems getting around but I-10 and the east side of town can be very busy!
