After having lived here for almost 7 months, I have found some places to buy fabrics (for quilting, making curtains etc.) but if anyone knows of stores that I am not aware of, please share. I am sorry that most of the Walmart stores have cut down or totally removed their fabric departments - I used to buy the same fabrics there for a fraction of what they cost in fabric stores. I am aware of the JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby stores but wondered if anyone knows of other fabric stores.

I also make jewelry and have found one store on Doniphan that sells beads. I think there is a store in the central area that sells jewelry supplies but haven't checked it out. Any tips would be appreciated!

I wonder if La Barata is still open downtown? You used to be able to by fabric quite cheap there.

which walmart are you shopping at? the one on woodrow bean/54 still has quite a bit of fabric. i'm from san antonio, all of the walmarts there have gotten rid of their fabric/yarn etc, as i'm sure the ones here are going to follow suit.

Thanks for the replies. I live in the Northeast and shop regularly at the Walmart on Woodrow Bean/54. Their selections are less than what I was used to in Florida, especially in the home decor section. They don't carry any fabric at all in the Walmart on Gateway West and I have not checked the Walmart on the westside. Today I went to JoAnn's and could not find anything in their home decor department that I could possibly use to make curtains because color selections were limited.
