The original college opened in 1914 and burned down in 1916, a site selection committee met to decide a new location for the School of Mines.

The architect stems from buildings found in Bhutan in the eastern Himalayas,
Geologist and Engineer Stephen H. Worrel served as Dean of the School of Mines (UTEP).
His wife Kathleen used their travels around the world as subjects of her writtings and painting.
Her favorite magazine was the National Geographic, in the April 1914 issue she first saw photographs of buildings in Bhutan and notice the similarity between the landscape of the Bhutan and that of the Franklin Mountains.
Thus was born the idea of Bhutanese architecture for the new school.

They both will help accomandate growth, UTEP and Med School, now this new Health Science Complex I take is seperate from the School of Nursing, or are they both going to be housed in the same facility?
I've been under the impression that UTEP would be getting a new 70 million dollar School of Nursing facility, or was this the real deal?
In addition I'm also under the impression that UTEP has future plans to expand into the TT PF School of Medicine campus.
