I'm an avid marathon runner from northern Minnesota. I've participated in many northern and Canadian marathons, some of the best are those which start in one country (US) and end in Canada (the Detroit and Niagara Falls Marathon are like this). I've never been to the other 'borderland' and I know that the El Paso Marathon doesn't exactly go into Mexico, but pretty close - you can see Mexico from the race course. I've never been southwest, except for Scottsdale, and after reading how safe El Paso is, I thought it would be a nice getaway during those awful Northern Minnesota winter days. There is very little mention of the El Paso race in the marathon blogs, so I figure someone here would know. I'm also looking for reasonably priced place to stay like the 'Y', where I could spend a few extra days hanging out without needing a car. Any advice? Thanks!
