The effort to recall your mayor is moving forward, but interestingly, not much mention here on CD. I've heard of voter apathy, but this takes it to a new level. Not many other city forums would be so quiet if this were happening in their town. If not voter apathy, what is it?

Without going into great detail, what is the crux of the problem? I've been reading about the recall petition campaign, but seen very little by way of justifying/explaining the need for it?

Politics and religion are always a never ending debate. We have enough problems trying to quell the axe grinders.

I was going to post but saw this. Is the mayor that bad? I thought he was well liked?

I'm not a fan of Mayor Cook but I'm also not a fan of those leading the petition and the way they went about it. Since I cannot chose a "side" I will be staying out the decision process.

For those who don't know: This politically active conservative preacher named Tom Brown is leading the recall effort. Apparently he's got his Fruit of the Looms in a wad because John Cook and these two city councillors that he's also trying to recall voted to reinstate health insurance for unmarried (including same-sex) partners of city employees, using some kind of legal loophole to circumvent a referendum also organized by Brown in which a city ordinance mandating this coverage was canceled by the voters.

I don't see what good discussing it would do.

Thanks. I HAD read that about the recall but didn't know it was the driving force behind the petition drive. What a crock!

El Paso blogger David Karlsruher's "Refuse the Juice" always has an interesting slant/opinion on what's going on around town.

Here's today's post on this very subject.

I ruled out the natural lithium in our water some time back because of Juarez so I think it's apathy.
