Obama and Clinton were obligated to support the 8 term Congressman. No way could they support the upstart so I don't take it a slight against Beto. Reyes blew it. Reyes should have emphazied his record and the benefits he's brought to El Paso (see UTEPAlum post above) instead of going negative and portaying Beto as a punk kid doper.

Yes UTEPAlum is right. And the problem with O'Rourke is that the whole country apparently sees him as a punk kid doper that ran because he just wants to legalize all drugs and that isn't going to give El Paso the influence we need in Washington DC to keep all those federal dollars rolling in. No "gravitus" with O'Rourke, Reyes at least did have that.

Nah, he will do just fine. He will just need some time to build some seniority and he will get it if he does well for El Paso. Beto also needs to prove himself and he will have 2 years to do it just like anyone else or he won't get re-elected.

Reyes did a good job for us for 16 years, but his time was up. I wish him the best and at 67 I hope he retires from politics and has himself a good retirement.

I agree, his negative ads seemed like low blows and like he was really reaching for anything negative he could use against Beto. The people saw through that and wanted some change and they got it. Good for this city, its really starting to move forward nicely.

We were in the same as we started. The decision will lesser of two evils.
One is arrogant and the other is a Leona Helmsley. Both hide the true personality in public.

But the new school Canutillo ISD is building on Paseo del Norte Drive on the northwest side is being named for Reyes and his wife.

Congressman Silvestre and Carolina Reyes School.

Pretty appropriate, actually (IMHO). They were going to name it after another former Canutillo ISD board member, Margarito Arellano, but it appears they changed their minds.

I think that all politicians should have term limits; Other than that it would be nice for congressmen Sylvestre Reyes to be passing the torch to Beto O"Rourke. Barbara Corasco seems like she has to much of Mitt Romney's platform think alike GOP agenda which is no good.
