I would like advice on finding a nice family resort that is apporx. 3-5 hours away. I enjoy almost anything, but would prefer something that is family friendly. Just looking to get away every now and then. Thanks for any advice.

Sure there are in different directions.

First to the west of El Paso you can be up in Silver City and the Gila National forest that stretches all the way thru Arizona up to Flagstaff. There are Lakes and Streams and Campgrounds and the Gila Cliff Dwellings and Ghost Towns etc...Take I-10 to Deming NM then up to Silver City on U.S.180 (3 hour drive)

Gila National Forest - Welcome

The second is going NorthWest of El Paso to Elephant Butte Reservior in T or C NM as its the largest body of water in NM as there's Jet Sking/Water Sking etc and also Hot Springs in town. Take I-10 to I-25 to Tor C (2 hour drive)

Discover Elephant Butte Lake, New Mexico

Thirdly is going Northeast of El Paso up to the Lincoln National forest where the resort playgrounds of Ruidoso and Cloudcroft are in the cool Mountain Pines. There's casino's and Horse Racing and Camping and Shopping etc...Also the White Sands National Monument there as its 275 sq miles of pure White Gypsum Sand Dunes. Take U.S.54 up to Alamogordo NM and Take U.S.70 to Ruidoso or U.S. 80 to Cloudecroft (2 1/2 hour drive)

White Sands National Monument (U.S. National Park Service)

Lincoln National Forest - USDA Forest Service

Lastly you could head east of El Paso to the Carlsbad Caverns National Park in Carlsbad NM . Take U.S.62 out on Montana Blvd all the way there (about 2 1/2 hour drive)

Carlsbad Caverns National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

Thanks. My husband is leaving for Kuwait in December so he has 2 weeks off prior to that. Muhnay, I will certainly look into getting reservations around that time.
6 foot 3, I was able to spend a week at Gila National Forest when we first got here. We have an RV so that makes it very easy when traveling with kids, rather than using a tent and outdoor facilities. Although it isn't a resort, I had a wonderful time while there and my daughter enjoyed it ,also. I would recommend this place if you like the outdoor environment.

I was looking at the Thread Headline about Vacation spots and didn't catch the Resorts that you asked about. Most of what i posted is for the outdoor enthusiast. Just the ''Inn Of the Mountain Gods'' that Muhnay posted is the only true Resort thats about 2 hours northeast before you get to Ruidoso....

Been to Kuwait.. I wish him well.. its nicer there now than when I went, we have a couple bases there now, with full amenities, and the population welcomes us. But it can still be dangerous but he should be fine.

I think Big Bend is within five hours although I could be wrong. There is a resort there although I cannot recall the name right now. I have seen their vans leaving the El Paso airport. I have yet to visit but I hear that is quite luxurious and that area is beautiful and uncrowded. I think the IMG is over rated, over priced and poorly managed but because there is not a lot of competition they do not have to improve. The best thing about it is the view from the lobby and that is free if you visit.

I agree, that place is EXPENSIVE, for that price I would rather go to a real casino in Las Vegas.

The posts so far have ignored the obvious choice, travel south. Chihuahua is an easy drive, lots of cultural opportunities, Copper Canyon, etc.
