So, my husband has a good job opportunity monetarily in El Paso. I have read the threads but am gonna go ahead and post my own info and ask my own questions...

Me-White, born and raised in San Antonio, on the far north east side in a very military community. I do not speak Spanish but I do understand a lot.

My husband-Hispanic, first generation American, grew up in between Lubbock and Amarillo in a farming community. He is fully bilingual. He is a professional, with a graduate degree (this sometimes has given him trouble with other Hispanics in the past as they feel he is trying to act white).

We have 5 children who mostly look Mexican, but speak about 5 words of Spanish and don't understand any more than that. They are in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades-with the 3 oldest all being in gifted and talented programs. They are also very active in competitive youth sports-baseball, softball, & basketball.

We have spent the past year in Birmingham, Alabama for my husbands job and while it is lush and green here we absolutely hate it-schools stink and generally speaking Hispanics are not well tolerated.
We want to get back to Texas and so far this job is our best bet.

I have looked at the school sites but am hoping for some personal experiences or insight-what Elementary Schools and Middle Schools are well known for an excellent gifted program/academics.

Safety is also important-our budget is fairly flexible-we want the safest area possible. My husband would rather drive 20 miles to and from work if necessary to get us to the best schools and safest area.

Several of us suffer from allergies and asthma-how is the air quality?
How is the healthcare scene? A couple of our children have chronic health conditions so good pediatric specialists-allergy/asthma/immunology, cardiology, speech therapy, and general pediatrics are extremely important. Any information/experiences would be helpful.

Youth sports are also a big part of our routine. We would like to be in an area with a strong youth sports program.

Thank you in advance for any information you have to offer!
