hello miss kitty 98! no, case management is right across the street from me and never heard of riverstone. this is a private ownership, private management place that went from top of the heap from prior ownership into the hands of someone who's never known anything about commercial property ownership, and lawdy lawdy is it BAD.

i've already got money down on a great new place, come the end of my lease here. everyone that's been here as long as i have and longer is getting OUT of here pronto as possible. my only fear is that my new place won't have an opening when i'm ready to hit the dusty trail.

and i most DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT to own property anywhere. bought twice and did amazingly well for the idiot i am, but it's too much of a gamble now.

Hi there emmapeel, you know what I think that El Paso needs for renters is a Tenants Rights Commission, oversight bureaucracy group for El Paso apartment rentals.El Paso needs a Rent Board for renters complaints, and oversight of property rental units to make sure that renters are being treated fairly.
Also to help dictate apartment market rates in the form of rent control, when I moved back to El Paso at first I had to rent, and I was blown away at what they are charging for El Paso rentals, I said to myself why is it that people here are getting ripped off? To begin with El Paso is not beach front property, it is not a resort community either why are rents so high? El Paso is not Hawaii and it is not San Francisco but apartment owners charge an arm and a leg for their rental units.
But then I did a little research and found out that the State of Texas won't allow Rent Control laws in the state which is not fair because this allows the landlords to charge ridiculous expensive prices. The landlords can be rude and they can become slumlords and take their sweet time to make repairs. They have all these stupid rule contracts and yet they expect one to honor their lease agreement when they themselves don't have control over obnoxious rude tenants including people using crystal meth in the complex.
I didn't relate to the dusty trail comment, I hope you are doing alright health wise.

miss kitty! thank you for that very intelligent and fine response. i am so much against government intervention, but it's also true that there need to be laws governing uncouth business practices. i agree that the rents in el paso, for where we are and what we are, are exorbitant. you said something so striking about slumlords -- that's exactly what my once beautiful complex is fast-becoming -- nothing short of a ghetto. wish i could treat you to sbux. thank you again.

All,

I ended up at a new set of units downtown. I've loved it so far. I'll re-evaluate as I learn the area. I've really enjoyed West so far, but I don't have a family.

Hi all, I'm still wondering what the actual commute time is. I have commuted in Houston and commuted through Austin so I understand how things can come to a crawl. One thing I'm confused about, though, is that I didnt actually see an estimate of actual time here. Does it range from 15-45 minutes or 45-90 minutes. Those are big differences and I'm trying to absorb the West to East travel time. One of my old commutes was 30 minutes good and an hour and a half when things got jammed.

Also, is the trans-mountain road a reasonable route? Or is that not something someone should rely on. I would be working more on the west side and my other half commuting to Ft. Bliss. I'm not trying to put him in a bad position He just commutes at off-hours and I am trying to set us both up for reasonable success during our relative commute times.

I really appreciate any input.

Thanks!
Renee

On the I-10 I can do Redd Road (west side) to George Dieter (east side) in under 30 minutes with normal traffic and max. 45 minutes in bad rush hour with congestion/stop and go traffic.

Google Maps gives realistic trip times.

Transmountain Rd is reliable almost all year except when winds pick-up and when it snows. That is probably about 1-7 days a year max. Good luck and let us know how it went!
