I believe in order to maintain a strong market base the team should not be given a gimmicky name and mascot. Although it's a minor league team, it doesn't have to sound, look and feel like one. Therefore, I only see three options, in no order of importance;

1) Name: Padres
Colors: current Padres color scheme

2) Name: Padres
Colors: Padres throwback brown, yellow and orange. Here is an example of a good starting point someone in another forum did. I think the colors fit well with the city, especially the orange since utep uses it.

3) Name: Sun Kings
Colors: original sun kings color scheme
I think reviving the sun kings could be really cool. Albuquerque failed when they chose the gimmicky isotopes rather than reviving the 85yr old history of the dukes.

My personal favorite option is keeping the Padres team name and adopting the throwback colors.

Well if I had my own personal choice and opinion, I would deck out the team in orange and black uniforms and rename them the Giants.

Kinda out there, but it does have something to do with the city of El Paso.

Long shot, but how about, the Guerreos?

Guerrero means warrior so that is not a stretch. Don't know about adding Eddie in there though.

Well, JUST "Guerrero".

Eddie would just be the inspiration, since he and his family are pretty well known as El Paso natives.

What would a wrestler who passed away have in common with a AAA baseball team??? not even naming the stadium after this guy is worth the time let alone the mascot name for the team.

Wow. That's a lil' disrespectful...

Eddie was great but has nothing to do with the team. I say the name is either Padres or sun kings. Padres with brown-yellow-orange or blue-white-orange (ala utep)

Maybe nothing to do with the team, but a lot to do with the CITY.
