I am a student from a decent public university that belongs to the UT System here in Texas. I am planning in majoring in Accountancy and obtaining a Master degree in Accountancy aswell. Does El Paso have a financial sector? How are future employment opportunities in El Paso? Thank You

I am not in the know in this field. My story is just one. I don't claim this represents El Paso or the job market here.

One of my best friends graduated from UTEP with a degree in accounting. It took him 2 or 3 tries to pass the test and become a CPA.

At that point, he had his pick of the litter as far as jobs are concerns. He was able to compare and picked the job offer that best suited his needs. He has since "upgraded" twice for jobs that offered him better money. All being in El Paso.

I don't know whether that was a fluke or there is a lot of jobs here in accounting.

While there may be plenty of opportunities for someone with a CPA certification, being a CPA does NOT necessarily equate to high-paying jobs.

Look up the labor statistics for the area you are interested in. Are there jobs in EP? sure. Is the probability better in a bigger market? yes. Unless there is a specific reason (i.e. family) why you want to move to El Paso, I would not look there for employment.

Surely there are markets out there that might meet your own means, but one thing is for sure, and that is that the world don"t revolved around the Missouri/Houston Texas area.
