"Buckaroo Baseball" rolls off the tongue much better than the others. Plus it'd look cool on a t-shirt or ballcap (merchandise sales!) And after a while we'd informally call them the "Bucks".

From the interwebs: Buckaroo, a cowboy of the Great Basin and California region of the United States, from an Anglicization of the Spanish word vaquero

That's just great. Couldn't even use the word for "cowboy" from our region, huh? Let me guess, the marketing company that came up with these options has never been to El Paso, right?

Please...stop whining...that excuse is pathetic.

Everyone and their mother knows that Buckaroo sounds exactly the same as Vaquero, and a Vaquero was known throughout the whole Southwest and Mexico. Its more of a unique and quirky name of saying it than the actual meaning.

There are HUNDREDS of team sports names that make no sense. This does. What is the name of a cowboy from our region called then?

Really? You and i both know neither of us knew a Buckaroo was a cowboy from California and the Great Basin before looking it up.

It makes sense, Buc-ka-roo sounds like Va-que-ro.

It's good, i get it now. The names are quirky and unique in order to appeal the whole family.

There is a Triple A team in Sacramento called the River Cats...yeah now what...slamdunk...for the win...goal...fatality!

Default Hmm...

'The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across The Eighth Dimension' comes to mind immediately, not baseball.

That's probably the point considering they want a fresh property that is not already copyrighted for use in sports.
