A friend who has lived all of her life in Madison, WI emailed me to tell me how much she enjoyed the program and especially the characterizations. She's looking forward to future episodes. She also enjoys Breaking Bad and didn't realize that it is being filmed in the Albuquerque area.

Me? I don't watch TV, but have read more than my share of both novels and non-fiction about crime and mayhem along the border. Just finished reading (again) The King Ranch by El Paso author/artist Tom Lea. Volumn 1 of the tome gives a great picture of what lower Rio Grande border life was like in the 19th century, and it was just as violent back then, and even more so on the USA side of the Rio. And drugs were not the problem back then - it was general lawlessness aggravated by political upheavals on the Mexican side.

I think you'd like it a lot. The female lead IMO is just so-so but the Mexican cop really makes the program. The older cop Hank Wade reminds me a little of Rip torn.

So, I guess I am the only one who is kind of sick of violence toward women being made into "entertainment"?? I saw the commercial for this show and thought it looked terrible. Pretty sad too, when you consider all the real women who have been murdered in Juarez. I also find the idea of an El Paso cop working with a Juarez cop to solve a murder absolutely ludicrous.
