Back on the days it use to be a shoe store on El Paso St. right after crossing the bridge Santa Fe ( first store at the corner) and it was a big sign right on top of the store saying " Shoe Co. " Which people can see it all the way from Cd. Juarez so people across the bridge star calling El Paso "El Chuco " do it to the shoe store with the big sign Shoe Co. El Chuco. So this Chuco word has nothing to do with the pachucos which is a totally different story.

You got all wrong people.

There was a business in El Paso called Shoe Co., it seems that was a shoe store in downtown. In spanish its pronounced "chu co", so when people asked, where are you going? (a donde vas?) they said: al chuco (Shoe Co.)
