I am just wondering because to me it has been El Paso, just like it's spelt. But where I work there are a couple of guys from El Paso and to my ears it sounds like they are saying Al Passo, like it's a guys name.

What I usually heard growing up:
“ell-PASS-oh”

More authentic:
“el-PAH-soh”

I stand ready to be corrected

Not a hard word to pronounce. Pretty much the same way it's written.

BTW: The name comes from El Paso de Norte, meaning The Passageway to the North, which was shortened to El Paso.
