what kind of rock? are you going to be able to walk on it? Are you going to put landscape fabric down first?

Yes, will be able to walk on both but the material company said the smaller ones will be easier to walk on.

Yes, definitely put fabric down first.

Letting the homeowner decide, both are the same price. Realtor passed word to the homeowner today and we'll wait for word.

The red one? I'll have to take that into account. Maybe I'll do a combo of both in certain areas that I don't want the dog to go into, use that as a perimeter of sorts for a garden or something like that.

Realtor passed the proposal to the owner on Friday. Still no response yet.

I think it sounds reasonable.

Got a response back from the homeowner and they're willing to pay 2/3 of the cost up to $500.

Went and priced a different wife that the CEO liked more and looks like we won't be coming but a couple hundred out of pocket. Moving all that rock isn't going to be fun but I have a couple weeks off from work so what else is there to do?

Still expensive.

I was looking at the prospect of moving 22,000 pounds of rock from the driveway to the backyard by myself. After factoring in the fact that I'd still have to buy a wheelbarrow for about $80 and many hours of work, I thought I'd ask around if anyone was interested in the job.

Two guys came over, one only spoke Spanish while the other was bilingual. Spanish speaker wanted $500 and I said that's too much, I was looking at more like $250. Bilingual guy says he can do it for $250 so we agreed to the deal. Maybe they were hustling me but I don't care because he's bring 2 other guys with him and it's going to save me a lot of work and money from buying equipment.

I told him I would provide Gatorade and burgers in addition to the pay.

After the driver dropped the rock off, I realized it was more than what I thought it would be. We originally agreed on $250 without him seeing the rock. After seeing the rock, I told him I'll bump it to $300. He came this morning with 2 other guys and they knocked it out in about 2 hours. They finished so fast that I asked him if they were hungry yet, he said no so I said I'll just give them the 6 pack of Bud Light with Lemon instead but don't drink until they get home.

Lead guy said they'd be here around 7:30-8:00 but got here at 7:20 and immediately started to work. They had a pretty good system going. Told him that I'm going to eventually do the front (it wasn't done properly, you can tell someone dumped rock on top of sand) later this month or in October and that I will call him for that job as well.

This is the result.

As it washes out and dries, it will take on more of a reddish tint.

We're going to put one more layer on the retaining wall and plant something in that 1/2 circle in the middle. The bricks along the patio will also be raised.

okay, so that's crushed gravel (not what I'd call "rock.") MUCH better than the larger rock, and it's what I have. I love it. It soaks up the water fantastically so there are no puddles.

Keep wetting it down for the first little bit so it compacts together. You will still have to pull weeds which poke through. You can also wet it, and use a rake to make fun patterns in it, like Japanese rock gardens.

You can plant through it, too. You could plant a big shrub in that semicircle -- one that doesn't need too much water after establishment, like Apache Plume.
