I saw in the News paper, that the Military is no longer allowed to visit Juarez, due to the amount of violence taking place there.. so any of you wanting to visit should reconsider.

Also did anyone see on news 7 last night, the report on all the missing or murdered women over there they call it the Killing Fields. I saw lots of pink crosses, where is that at?

Well -- I for one have said that I thought it was okay for people to go in the day or early evening to the tourist strip -- I think for now I would rescind that. Chances are nothing would happen to some tourist -- but I would for now say it's best just not to go at all if it were my family or friends visiting.

I have been across the border, not Juarez way east of there, just to say I have been in Mexico, or a foreign country for that matter.

I agree though, that the military does not really need to go to Juarez.

I go to Juarez 4 days a week for work, and so far, nothing has changed, at least where I go seems a pretty safe part of town, but I won't go out for dinner with co-workers anymore

I think the military become a target in juarez. It is pretty obvious who the military are,
because of the way they conduct themselves, usually are in small groups, slang, and are out to have a good time, and at times it does get out of hand. I was stationed at Shepherd A.F.B. in Wichita Falls TX, yrs. ago, for a short period of time, the military closed the town, to all military personnel, because of the threats and beatings of
military people. The town was hurting, because the majority of their income came from that military base. The military were allowed in town after three weeks, because the business people wanted them back. The military were allowed to go into town, but only in pairs, or small groups. Is it because of the general violance in Juarez? Is it aimed also
at the military? laplander

Muhnay,
I think that is temporary from what I read somewhere on-post. The CG is supposed to relook that policy in the near future.

We have not been across the border yet and now we will have to wait, which is a pain because I want to go!

Well according to a friend of mine, it has two main reasons behind it.

1: the killing and danger in Juarez right now.

2: the new laws for crossing back and forth are in effect.

Today's newspaper has an article about 2 kids being shot -- a 16 year old shot in the head and killed and a 10 year old shot in the leg. And people that live over there are saying they're terrified -- won't walk through shadows. I'll take their word for how it is over there.

El Paso Times - Escalating violence leaves Juarenses worried

Ramon Barron, a Juárez shop owner with two young children, said he was "panicked."

Carina Lida, a cashier in south east Juárez, said she felt security was getting worse.

"Even the cops are scared now. There should be more police," she said. "We need a lot more."
