Does anyone know how to contact Winn's Company to lease the old store at the corner of Amber & Pleasanton, San Antonio?

hamsters have a shelf life way shorter than a Twinkie--I doubt you have that hamster unless it is stuffed...

Yes that was the one I used to go to. Right next to Furrs. Memories!!!

I was wondering if anyone remembered this store. I was just wondering about how cool it was and how I got in trouble as well for attempting to steal a set of micro machines from there. I was just a little kid. Thank goodness I did not get into too deep of trouble except with my parents. That place used to sell pet fish, gerbils, local gym uniforms for schools, toys, awesome candy, clothes, man that place really rocked. There used to be as many of them as there were Kroger's or Drug Emporiums. I miss those days. The past is always good to look back on. Kind of sad when I think about it, how drastically things change in a matter of years. I wonder what will over rule Wal-Mart? There was also a clothing store around that time named Weiner's I believe. My brother and I used to crack jokes and laugh overtime we saw it. Silly kids.
haha

I remember the Winns at Ft. Blvd and Copia. It is across from the tortilla factory and next to Delicious Mexican Food so it always smelled amazing!

I used to earn enough allowance (1$ a week) to buy My Little Ponies. We got our first pet goldfish there... I used to LOVE it. I believe Winns closed in the late 80s or so in El Paso. I recall going to the Going out of business sale almost as if it were yesterday.

The town my grandparents live in, Rockdale, had a Winns. I loved going there. Cool toys, they sold material, and cheap candy! It was lagging when Wal-Mart moved in, and they moved to a building downtown, but ended up closing. My grandparents would take me there every time me and my brother visited to get us something.

Default Winn's

Winn's and Winn Dixie, were not the same. Winn's was a five and dime. Winne Dixie is / was a grocery store. There are still a few in the DFW area. There also used to be a Winn's at Fox Plaza along with the JC Penney and White's. I believe White's was like a Western Auto.
All very cool stores. I remember Winn's in Tiqua too.
Right next to the Levines's and Zales and can't forget Furr's Grocery Store.

Default Winn's and Winn - Dixie not the same

I worked for the Winn's Stores Corporate Headquarters in San Antonio Texas up until Walmart closed us down....Winn - Dixie is a grocery store completely different from Winn's Stores and also Winn's Stores was not a franchise, but a private company..

In fact there is still a sign on the building, but not sure that it still has the same ambiance - wooden floors and glass display cases and a long soda/sandwich fountain where lunches were "dirt cheap."

There was another variety store that I am not recalling the name of - perhaps Peterson's? It was never quite as busy as Kress.

You people who are recalling the Winn's franchise - I wonder if that's the same chain as the Winn-Dixie stores in other southern states?

My dad managed Winn's stores for 19 years. He had the store in Universal City, TX until he died in 1976. Subsequently I worked at my neighborhood Winn's for about 3 years when in high school. Talk about fond memories--at one time one could buy baby alligators and monkeys there as well. . . .

There was a Winn's when I was growing up in Portland, Tx (near Corpus). I remember it from my childhood (born 71) and remember getting an Icee and popcorn there if I behaved.
