Hey guys, well I got back to Chicago from El Paso last night, and sure enough, I just missed the concert. Totally sucks because I heard the concert was pretty amazing. They put on a live show that few bands can match. My 3 friends who were lucky enough for my free tickets were indeed impressed.....
Damn.

[el paso band mars volta wins grammy!]Ced's dad on Mars Volta Grammy win

I wasn't able to get in touch with any of The Mars Volta guys after they received the Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy for "Wax Simulacra" during Sunday's Grammy Awards in their adopted home of Los Angeles.
But I did contact singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala's dad, who said more than 20 gathered at his home to watch the show. "Around 6:30 we were contacted by Cedric informing us that they had won," Dennis Bixler-Zavala, director of UTEP's Chicana/o Studies Program, said by e-mail Monday, noting the congrats have been pouring in from family members on both sides of the border.

"We spent the time (Sunday) night reminiscing about Cedric's musical trajectory, retelling the stories shared by him about the hardships, incidents, accidents and funny situations encountered going from gig to gig, in the early days," he wrote. "His mother
(Rosa), sister (Jenna Marie) and I are elated that they won a Grammy, hopefully they'll repeat in that or another category. We feel that all his hard work has finally paid off, and that the band is most deserving of the success."

He's also hoping the additional recognition will "open doors for the Mars Volta to reach new publics."

[that big mansion that burned down in the westside about a month ago, belong to the parents of one the el paso mars volta members, so this is nice to hear]

They're working on it, the El Paso band, which is fronted by Bixler-Zavala and uberguitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, has been added to the lineup of the Bonnaroo festival near Nashville in June.

FYI: There's a nice pic of the entire band with their trophies backstage at the Grammys on blog.thecomatorium.com.

It's kind of disappointing just how popular the Mars is around the world, yet so unknown to so many of their fellow El Pasoans.

Then again, El Paso's never been known as much of a music town....
