I currently live in Lubbock. Lubbock’s not the worst place, but I’ve been ready to move for a long time. I’m an educator and would be seeking employment as an elementary teacher. I’m already ESL certified. Fellow teachers, what are the schools like? What is teaching in El Paso ISD like? And what are the pros and cons of living in El Paso? Thanks in advance!

El Paso schools are average but there is a wide variety and several different districts.
I know plenty of teachers and they seem happy enough.

I've lived everywhere and El Paso has a cool culture and is friendly .

There are cool neighborhoods as well as cookie cutter crap far east.

Sunset Heights is my favorite -friendly and full of nice old homes. Arizona-Rio Grande is similar but cheaper and Kern Place is also well-located but expensive.

I’d like to rent first. I’m budgeting between $1000 and $1500 per month for rent.

The other thing I’d like to know is how are the electric bills in El Paso? Here in Lubbock, our electric bill has always been far more reasonable when we’re with the co-op instead of the local power company.

ESL is needed in every school , if you don't know Spanish then stay on the west side of El Paso to teach. I would choose west El Paso. don't try to commute from west to east El Paso, I -10 has an accident or traffic back up every single day at any time of the day. There are some good schools and some terrible schools where the kids are uncontrollable. Coronado, Franklin, high school.DR Hornedo, Brown middle school, Lundy, Rivera, Putnam, Tippin, Kohlberg Elementary. all on the west side.

A 3 bdm 2 ba home with refrig air on west side will run about 1400 min for sn older home, 1500+ for something not as old.
Plan on about 250 mo utilities in summer. Around 200. In winter. For about a 1500 sf home.
Elec in winter is about 40-60. In summer, 150-200
Gas in summer about 20. Winter about 80.
Water, min bill is about 64.00 and includes sewer and trash. If you have grass to maintain, summer it can go up dramatically.
