Thanks LaLisaAnn, a great post and spot on. I've lived here for 54 years and much of it in the Northeast part of town. Never had any problems with violence, gangs...none of that.

Compared to the areas I mentioned, the crime rate of violent crimes and others is actually yawn worthy to the point where it's a great cure for insomnia count yourself. Appreciate what you have people! It's not bleak and depressing unless you make it that way...same goes for everywhere in the world! I think it's a great city!

No kidding!

I love when people describe what is "scary" in their town.

If you, like me, have lived in Houston Dallas or New Orleans...NOTHING in Far West Texas is going to scare you. LOL

All the hipsters hang out at Kinleys Coffee house on Mesa across from the Starbucks near UTEP. If you need to be Trendy then hang with the Hipsters. affluent trendy hipsters live at the Venu at Monticello Apts on North Mesa. There is a coffee shop there too but not as Beardly or Male Hair Bun as Kinleys which it's a great place, stays open late, Kings X dive bar is close by. The more Affluent hang out at the Hoppy Monk and spend money. Mesa is the coolest street. I even saw the Ethiopian track and field guys running up Mesa!
