Just sad that EP can't ever seem to get a mayor that kicks butt and really fights for the city. We need another Jon Rodgers (81-89) El Paso's only 4 term Mayor.

He was the one that would cut your tie off you in the summer months if you appeared before him. I heard he would replace the ties though with better ones from his own stock.. but the publicity of no ties in summer its too dang hot for that really made him a recognized man. That and he was a damn good mayor.

Check out this list Muhnay as it shows every Mayor and the City Council Members that served with them.

I'm looking back at the 1979-1981 right before i went in the service and im getting flashbacks as i remember Mayor Westfall (Career FBI Agent) and Councilors Polly Harris (Downtown) and Orlando Fonseca ( Lower Valley) and Patrick Haggerty as the Northeast Rep. High L..... you asked about the first black NE rep a while back correct......and i'm looking at the 1987-1989 council and i see Jethro Hills as he replaced Haggerty.

Scroll down to the years that interest you.

What did y'all think of Larry Francis, mayor from '93 to '97?

I had followed much of what went on in EP (as much as you can from a distance of 300 miles) from '94 to '96 or so.
