I was wondering since my freedom of speech rights are limited on citi data, if I could post this without getting lectured about distorted history or getting my post deleted.

I take note that people come here asking questions about Mexicans as if we are some kind of specimine for your special reseach project, well I ask in turn are red necks freindly specimines towards people of different enicities?

From my own experiance the answer is NO, whats everyones elses take, speak up people it's not a bashing rehersal.

They seem friendly enough, in fact no rednecks around here have ever asked me about my ethnicity or referred to it.

not trying to go against the OP just to go against him because we have strong opposing views, but I also tend to agree that "redneck" can be a racial slur.
  1. "Used as a disparaging term for a member of the white rural laboring class, especially in the southern United States.
  2. A white person regarded as having a provincial, conservative, often bigoted attitude."
from: redneck: Definition and Much More from Answers.com

NOT unlike calling somebody a beaner or a **tback:

Beaner (U.S.) term widely regarded as derogatory, that refers to people of Mexican descent or, more broadly, mestizos.[22][23][24] The term originates from the prevalence of frijoles pintos and other beans in Mexican food.[24][25] "

there are some funny ones here so knock yourselves out:

Well Bowen Ranch is the only place I have ever seen a red neck.. wait no those are cowboys.. Nope have never seen a red neck in El Paso.. nor a rough neck. So this question is rather mute.. and from its beginning seems like an opportunity to open a debate or discussion to thwart or upset a moderator, because you yourself are upset.

I know what the OP was alluding too and it didn't offend me however......it could offend others as City Data should ban ALL racially sensative terms on this site and not just certain terms for certain groups or they could risk a LAWSUIT by someone on here who is offended by that.

I may contact the owner(s) of City Data and point out about that ''term'' being very racial sensative to some and he/she as owner could possibly get a Lawsuit filed against them so they may want to ponder that as there are Attornies who may go after the owners here if they allow certain racial terms towards some racial groups while banning others but i do believe it's just a misslight on the ownership and not intentional.

I had a big debate with TexasReb about the word redneck. I can lean either way on it.. it is a racial slur and then it is also a term for someone who works outside in the hot sun all day like a cowboy or a maintenance worker on a street crew etc.. because if you have ever done either you know how red your neck can get out there in our Texas sun. The way it was used here I find it to be more of a slur use.. It would be like if I asked, Are the wet - backs in El Paso friendly.. now if I were to do that, you know Heaven would open up and the angels of condemnment would be on my back poking me with their spears of righteousness showing me the error of my ways.. Even if I did not mean anything by it. I an willing to bet just saying it as I have here may get it deleted.. because its not nice.. just as the term Red Neck is not either.
