In the southwest I am only familiar with El Paso. I would be interested to hear from people who are familiar with Arizona cities and how they compare? Or maybe even Albuquerque,NM? Are the neighborhoods the same? Same type of houses? Is Phoenix, Mesa or Tucson more picturesque? Is there more grass? Is the traffic the same?

Is the desert vegetation similar? I know there are no seguaro cactus in EP, few Canary Island palms. It seems the two plants I think of most with EP is Mexican fan palms and pear cactus.

Personally I think the natural vegetation in south arizona is more alien like and unreal. El Paso is extremely beautiful too but in a different slightly calmer way. Here is a hike I took a few days ago:

I want to steal this sign. The Spanish translates to "don't eat chicos on a date" (you'll see when you get here)

The green ones are no good:

There is a small "puddle" at the top of some mountain. Ill try getting to it some time.

Edit: I read your post wrong, thought you were from Arizona coming to EP for some reason. Ill leave the pictures up any way, screw it.

Now that I finally have a camera I want to go back to Arizona.

Tucson and Phoenix are too hot, Albuquerque is too cold. El Paso is just right. El Paso is cold enough for apple trees, too cold for orange trees because it gets below freezing in El Paso quite a number of nights.

Default Alien Carving

Be careful...folks may confuse us with Roswell. I like the Chico's sign...that would be no double order and hot dog on the first date maybe?

THE SIGN DOES NOT READ " DONT EAT CHICOS ON A DATE"

It Reads..

"the entrance is prohibited, DANGER"

Stop feeding people bull-crap. You can get someone killed.. there are munitions up there that have not exploded yet, and the image on it is showing kids getting blown up.

Now I think we need pictures of the other areas for comparison.

Default love the pictures

I love the pictures. Has anyone ever seen a rattle snake on a hike? Or in their yard? How about tarantulas? I'd love to see some pic's of Arizona to compare...

I lived in El Paso over 10 years and Phoenix metro for 14. Apples and oranges on EVERYTHING! I love El Paso but I'm going to say Phoenix is definitely upscale by comparison. It's georgous, clean streets, everything's new new new and constantly expanding. Not too hot. The winters are very mild ( shorts to light jacket but I've had frost on windows! ) and it IS a dry heat but beautiful mornings, evenings and shade's cool. It's all about the young, the up and coming and the retired ( they tend to live in specific areas ). Everything's well kept from homes to businesses. Life's an outdoor thing and staying healthy. Friendly people. Surrounding lakes, Salt River and mountains are astounding. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give Phoenix a 9. Phoenix has been said to be like California and I'm so good with that. Not as pricey but not the cheapest. Beautiful place.

Default Sign

I thnk the fact it says "Keep Out-Danger" on the top of the sign would tell you, even if you can't read the Spanish translation, that this sign has nothing to do with Chico's Tacos and everything to do with you will blow your ass up if you pass this line.

I'm sorry but that is one really hot town. The average high in Phoenix for the month of July is 107! From the months of June through September they average over 100 for highs.. sorry but that is hot.. no matter what.

El Paso is another hot city, but the average highs here for any month don't even reach 100.

I like Phoenix, it's a nice city, it has a lot going for it.. its very modern.. it's just too freaking hot for me.
