I heard a rumor from a Sunland Park Mall retail employee that Dillards could close. The mall has never been busy. Dillards has over 300 stores & closed 9 stores in 2007 and about 15 in 2008.

Consumer traffic at Sunland Park Mall is so low because of the lack of stores. I could definitely see one of the two Dillard's closing there and having them consolidate them into a single unisex store instead of the current separate men's and women's stores. I don't know how the mall would survive that seeing as how they would be losing Mervyn's and then have ANOTHER empty anchor where one of the Dillard's stood...

Wow...stores closing all over. Circuuit City and I heard Limited Too (girls store) may be closing also. I agree...Sunland Park is not up to par...seems the developer has put all the eggs in the Cielo Vista basket. I went to SP Mall recently and once again looked at the emptiness of it, how outdated, etc. I mean, the Lunar Golf is fine, but still not the type of tenant that gives an air of quality retail. Surprised the Greenery has not picked up and relocated. It seems every anchor store there is a miniature version of other stores in the chain...Macy's & Sears especially. You gotta wonder how long the big box retail concept will last?
