I know that eventually during the whole downtown revitilization project chunks of segundo barrio are eventually going to be torn down, this area is rich in history. What do you think we would be able to do as a city to preserve the history but still go forth with the "plans" what would be a good compromise? What have they done in other citys in these kind of cases?

What "rich history" is it you are referring to? I am not familiar with any historical value of the buildings in the area or anything like that...

What parts of it will they tear down? I don't like seeing old buildings torn down. I think El Paso has done far too much of that already, much of our historic buildings are gone and you can never get that back.

Look at Old Mesilla -- it's popular mostly because nothing was torn down.

I visited your links but still found no information on historical buildings in the area. It seems that many have put some sort of personal value on some of the old buildings in the area, but that simply doesn't make them have some kind of historical value.

Simply because a large number of people lived and grew up in a certain area does not mean that the entire area should remain intact and not be redeveloped. From most of what I read in your links some minor "events" took place in the area like the first novel of the Mexican Revolution being written there, but all of that doesn't really require the entire area to be left as is. Redevelopment can occur with some type of monument to what once stood and took place there.

I am sorry, but I see no REAL historical value in the area. There is clearly some personal value to many which to them may make it SEEM historical, but it is not. It's just as someone would feel about their childhood home being bulldozed to make room for something new. You feel that you have a deep connection with the home/area...

I say redevelop and if enough people want or feel they need it, then erect a monument to remember the past.

They are not planning on tearing down that church are they?

Can someone give me a Google map of the area, and maybe some pictures of what they are talking about please?
