The note that was found in the man's car read, "Obama, take care of my family."

HE is the one that is supposed to be taking care of his own family. If it was truly a suicide, what a stinking cop-out! It's a totally SELFISH act, with no consideration for those he left behind.

He needed to grow a pair. Passing the buck to someone else is despicable.

The presence of a presidential candidate's name in this story does not wave the green flag on discussing the Presidential election here in the El Paso forum. The place to do that on City-Data is //www.city-data.com/forum/polit...controversies/ .

So far you're doing just fine.

Carry on.

I think I'd have sympathy if the guy had gone up into a quiet part of the Franklins and made the leap but instead he risked the lives of many people to put on a show. He could have caused a terrible pile-up and he knew it -- that was a very busy time of day and the busiest part of town and so yes it seems completely selfish. And imagine how it is for the poor family that he did it this way.

My mother told me about this story today. Is there any info on it in the paper ( online ) or in print?

My mother said something about the note, and that he asked Obama to take care of his wife and kids.. and that he could not take care of them that he lost his job, and some other things and by dieing they should be able to cash in his life insurance?

But if he committed suicide then wouldn't that nullify his life insurance policy? I thought life insurance only works in cases of illness, accident, or homicide (as long as it isn't at the hands of a family member)?

there are typically exclusions in insurance policies for suicide, but they are most often for a limited period of time -- typically two years. so if the insured had the policy for a certain length of time - usually more than two years, often the insurance company will be obligated to pay. of course, this varies depending on the insurance policy contract, but it can be possible.

Probably he didn't have insurance or he figures the family won't get any thing for him having jumped or he wouldn't have asked Obama to take care of his family.

The thing I always think about actions like this guy's is what if you quickly changed your mind the moment you jumped. That could make it even worse than falling accidently.
