Does any business in El Paso do Christmas Window displays, like you see at SAKS 5th Ave, Macys in NY, and so on and so forth? if not, why not?

For me its not about Sales, but about doing something for the public, and being festive. I know the underlining is about drawing in customers.. but there is no reason they cant do the window displays for the young and young at heart, thats the problem with El Paso.. is all wrapped in your reply.

Maybe I'm being cynical here, but perhaps it has to do with vandalism, or theft? Whenever I go to El Paso and visit downtown, mostly I see either bars, or those iron curtains in front of the windows in the shops.

Imagine if there were a display like Macy's has, how long would it take before some criminal burglarizes the display?

It is silly to say that this is an El Paso problem. It is not done here because we don't have the foot traffic between stores. We are not like New York City were you can walk from store to store and then decide where you want to shop based on the window displays. It is not a better or worse thing, it is simply not applicable to this kind of area. For the most part, we drive to a mall, or we drive to a Target, and they have our business. We don't walk from building to building comtemplating where to shop.

Something to consider, during business hours, a lot of stores do better than window displays. They bring the products out and have displays in the areas in front of the stores. This is very common in downtown.

You could be the safest city in the world and it would still be foolish to not lock up your stores. We can by cynical and have our doubts but nobody is going to leave their store unsecured just to prove how safe El Paso is. If you lease a building downtown, and it is equipped with an iron curtain, of course you are going to utilize it.

The Malls all have window shopping- some of the stores in South El Paso have their stuff on the street.

if it weren't for malls more people would wander downtown and with more people buying -the stores would display more. Many other cities are similar. NYC still has lots of window displays.

No, I understand the point you were trying to make. There is no reason for me to challenge what you think is a good idea. Why would I? I only wanted to challenge that this was somehow an El Paso problem.

I think you're right. It's not just iron bars but those ugly grates they have on the windows. It would ruin any display.
