Don't know if a thread concerning this has been done already but, what are some high rise developments either proposed or have already started construction in the El Paso area? Also renderings or skyline pics are welcome, thanks.

To me highrise means residential and skyscraper means commercial. There are few highrises in El Paso (one near Rim Road/Stanton). The city is more of a spread out suburb with little development pressure to build up. There are older skyscrapers downtown but nothing built since the 1970's. Older skyscrapers are being renovated and updated. The newest tall buildings are an expansion in progress at Thomason Hospital (University Medical Center) and a new Court House building downtown just finished.

A 360 report for El Paso courthouse

The suburban Coronado Tower at Sunland Park/Mesa (11 stories!) was recently sold and is undergoing a major and long overdue renovation.

Gary Siete, the Basset Tower picture didn't download for me, but the other two photos did. I am guessing that the Wells Fargo Tower is about 25 stories? Would you like to see taller buildings becoming part of the El Paso skyline?

Wells Fargo plaza is 21 Stories high.
I would love to see higher buildings in El Paso, but they aren't really feasible right now unless a fortune 500 company decided to set up shop in El paso out of the blue.

I just would not want the higher buildings to detract from that excellent mountainous backdrop El Paso already has. That being said, I would like to see some taller structures in the skyline that would compliment the mountainous backdrop. Maybe something around 35-40 stories maximum. You would never know that El Paso has blossomed to the size it is if you judge it by its skyline. It still seems like a small mid-size city with its present skyline.

I'd like to see downtown rejuvenated and become more of a destination - but not more & bigger skyscrapers. A new skyscraper means destroying an entire block of old El Paso. As smguy101 said a new skyscraper would only work if a big head office tenant was attracted to El Paso. Office towers are more profitable when there are fewer large & multi-floor tenants than many smaller tenants. More & bigger skyscrapers would be the result of massive growth in El Paso... but El Paso is my Bridget Jones .. I like her just the way she is.

I'm with you - except I'd change IS into WAS. El Paso has suffered very massive growth - but it's all been sprawl - and you can see it in the horrendous traffic we now have.

And the beautiful old buildings are what have character, they should stay but be renovated to their previous state.

I never understand why people didn't appreciate mid-size El Paso which had all the conveniences but none of the hassel of huge cities. I remember once going to Houston and wondering how people could stand the traffic they had there, but now we have it.

I guess when they tear down a big part of our beautiful mountain, they can deal with even more traffic, it looks like the mountain is in their sights, it's become a problem for the developers and needs to go.

Are there plans to seriously blast the mountain or were you being sarcastic?
