According to Men's Health Magazine El Paso is ranked # 2 happiest city in the country behind Laredo, in fact according to the article, 3 of the top 4 happiest cities come from Texas.

The most depressed city is Philadelphia followed by Detroit while Phoenix, Mesa, AZ are tied for 7th saddest city.
I also saw in another article that Tucson ranked # 18 of unhappiest city while ranking as the 24th most depressed. Tucson's suicide rank was the 3rd worst in the country and 27th among violent crime.

I get extremely happy just thinking about my hometown that I left right after high school and if I ever live there again...I will NEVER live..I am going there next week and I can hardly wait...I grew up there along with the other 5 generations of my family!

Wow, this is very encouraging. Any ideas if this survey is realistic...actually portrays reality in El Paso? If so, what are some of the reasons you see for El Paso being so happy?

A big reason is the weather. Imagine 350 days of the year being near- perfect weather. Almost never a cloudy day. Almost every day you wake up and wish you could spend the entire day outdoors. Almost anything you like doing outdoors you can do almost every day except winter skiing and snow activities require a two-hour drive and it's too cold for swimming in the winter. Well -- and there's no lakes, no rivers to canoe down, but you can still drive to them.
Another well-known reason is the water here has a naturally high level of lithium, that has a very calming effect on us.
The other thing is money doesn't matter too much here. Those who crave it, leave town, those who stay are pretty happy because here no one cares if you drive a new Lexus or have the most expensive clothes. You can do all that if you want, no one will hold it against you but it doesn't impress anyone. It's a laid-back town.
