Currently, I live in Miami. I have my own financial consultant business. I manage an investment fund, and I do financial and data analysis (mostly MS Excel and MS Access-based) for corporates and businesses for over 10 years. I am familiar with manufacturing clients. I have a Masters in Finance/Banking from Texas A&M in Laredo.

I am looking at moving my business to a lower cost area. I love El Paso (originally from Texas), I am part hispanic, but frankly my Spanish is far from perfect, even though I speak it all the time here in Miami.

I have enough funds where I could live in El Paso for 18 months without getting any new clients, because I can work that portion of my job from anywhere.

I am going to try to prospect an El Paso-based client before leaving, but really El Paso doesn't have a lot of opportunity in my field, even if Juarez does. Am I still crazy to go? Or should I forget it, and just visit from time to time?

If things arent better in Miami, visit once or twice, read EP Times online to get feel for the city. Business is a risk anywhere at anytime. If you really like it here, go for it. I'm sure EP has to be cheaper to live than Miami. I always felt if you put your mind to it and plan, it will work.

I'm not in business so perhaps one of the business guys can better guide you. All the candidates for Mayor are talking about bringing business to EP and helping small business so maybe regardless of who wins there will be opportunities for you.

I retired from the military while stationed in Germany with no idea where to go. I took a chance, closed my eyes, pointed my finger at a map of the US and bingo, thats where I decided to go. It was rough in the beginning but I got it together and stayed for a few yrs until I went to look for better opportnities. No job, found one and made a career.

Can you keep some of your business you already have and telecommute and travel now and then?
