There's quite a lot of cheap West Texas land listed on Ebay (in some cases less than $150/acre but its usually at least 50-60 miles away from EP. Can anyone give me any tips on finding really cheap land (at least 5 acres) within 35 miles of EP?

Do a search on equine.com.

Just look under the horse properties listing and you will find a lot of properties. I suggest searching by county. When I last looked, the only properties that were reasonable in price were in Hudspeth but many lacked water and electricity.

I'd also look around New Mexico. I've been looking at some horse farms there that we plan to board our horses at and the area is beautiful.

Chapparral, NM
Anthony, NM

Search for land on www.realtor.com

It's not 150/acre but it's still pretty cheap when you consider it's 15min from EP and NM taxes (which people love to talk about)

I have a co-worker that actually commutes almost 45 mins to work (Lives in Anthony, NM but we work on the far east) and only pays 900/yr in property taxes. But there's a 3% state income tax. But then again you can shop in Las Cruces and pay much cheaper sales tax.
