I would say because the City Council never jumped on the idea.
Im sure it will work, maybe tie it into the Downtown Revitalization.

Old Mesilla survived and got stuck in a time warp because it got bypassed by the railroads in favor of Las Cruces.

Hopefully the Plaza Theater will provide the stimulus for more downtown restaurants near San Jacinto Plaza. There are wonderful architectural gems around there. The old Popular corner (Mesa/San Antonio) also has possibilities but the problem is that El Paso is more suburban/car oriented.

The Union Plaza redevelopment hasn't really reached it's promise or potential.

Sort of like Old Town/Gas Light District of San Diego also. That's pretty nice redeveloped areas as well.

I'm glad we don't. It gives me a marvelous excuse to jump on the motorcycle and head up highway 28 to LaPosta.

We don't have one because the people of El Paso never bothered to save it's old buildings. Our historic sites are mostly demolished. El Paso could have had a great "Old Town" better than anyone's because El Paso is associated in people's minds as an old West border town and they think it looks a certain way that unfortunately it doesn't because it was all destroyed.

We could make a fake Old Town with fake old buildings, old saloons, but that wouldn't accomplish much.

Probably the same reason, we don't have many things other cities have & El Paso should, but doesn't. I'm sure it boils down to politics.
