Since most of my in-laws and family live in El Paso I was wondering what the local news has said about the swine flu? Are any of you worried it may reach your community? I live in the Chicago-land area and everyone here is getting prepared for it to hit our community. We have the 2nd largest Spanish population next to California and have one of the biggest airports and we are preparing for when it lands here. I know that you proably would not want to admit if one of your family members has it but I was just curious what symptoms that showed and how are they recovering. Most of my husband's family lives in Mexico and they are all very scared.

Hopefully this virus does not mutate and we have no vacinne for the mutation. Very scary!

Not really. If it does it does.

I was in Toronto during the SARS scare taking crowded buses & subways to work - a girl in my office building lost her parents. I only saw a couple of people wearing masks but everyone was on edge & wary of anyone who sneezed - they suddenly had 1/2 a subway car to themselves.

I believe SARS & swine flu are spread mainly through mucus and sneeze/cough droplets - not by breathing "the air" but but inhaling sneeze/cough droplets from someone nearby or by touching recently infected surfaces.

Stay away from people with flu like symptoms and wash your hands frequently - especially when you've been out in public. I wore knit gloves that I could wash when I got home. Avoid enclosed public places (ie theatres)

Transmission was mainly in enclosed places with sneezing/hacking people. A whole family died after dad got sick & passed it on to family members. The other main distribution points in Toronto were in a crowded emergency waiting room, a church social group, and people on a plane.

Living in a hispanic community may increase your exposure but my understanding is that most cases were visitors to Mexico who brought it home or were on a crowed plane with an infected person. I know a lady in New Zealand who has many quarantined homes near her after NZ students became infected after a student-home exchange in Mexico City.

Im not going crazy but it is on the radar. What I got from this map was that if it can go that far north it can get here too. Im not thinking about me just those that can be/are more susceptible.

They've closed schools and clubs in Juarez, Mexico is taking precautions, but it won't be too inconvenient because they can just come over here to party and shop.
