Just to clarify, I mean "hacienda" as in a Mexican / Mission interpretation of a plantation house rather than a ten bedroom house with a thousand acre estate! My idea would be more a two-level square house roughly 3,200sq ft in total area with verandas on both levels.

I’m still at the drawing board (and I am still investigating land in California, Arizona and New Mexico) so I was just curious to see if any major builders did houses in the proper mission style (rather than a slight modification of the generic detached house) and what I should expect to pay.
Desert land is very cheap, 3,200 wouldn't be that expensive but like others pointed out it depends a lot on what you have to have. Valley land isn't all that cheap and you should factor in property taxes.

It would probably look very nice out in the upper valley(El paso country club area). I am probably going to go with a friends fathers to build my house in the future. Duncan homes is who I will be talking to. Goodluck with your endeavors!

Hi. I know this is old but I am wondering if you ever went through with this. I'm from El Paso and I just bought land in the outskirts within El Paso city limits. I too want to have an hacienda/southwestern mix inspired house built approx 2000 sq ft(no not an actual hacienda. I rolled my eyes at the comments telling you El Paso was modern and with no haciendas). If you didn't have it built, did you ever research or get quotes from anyone? I know nothing is going to be cheap and price shoots up with any non-standard features, but wanted to see if you spoke with any local builders, got any quotes, any experiences you went through or any advice or info of what you found would be appreciated.

I have long thought a company that builds these sorts of houses would do well.

Look at OP's post history. Hasn't posted since 2015, but more importantly, looks like OP never left the UK, let alone came to El Paso.

Haciendas will never be a thing of the past bc people like Skippy and me want to continue the tradition. If it’s what he wants he should make it happen! Skippy please share your experience. I am looking to buy 3 acres in southern Texas and I too want to build my hacienda. Would love to hear your story. Don’t let anyone talk you out of your dream or convince you to go with modern, what everyone else is doing!

Where are you looking exactly?

Have you looked at houses for sale? There are probably houses for sale right now that would fit the bill, unless you want a custom job. The area south of San Antonio has plenty of haciendas in the small towns that make up this area. I have seen some for sale in kingsville, the valley, hebbronville, freer, Pearsall, cotulla, among other places.

And I’m with y’all. Big fan of the hacienda houses. Don’t much like modern “architecture”
