Yes, but the police here often seem inept. I would sense there really isn't much reporting of crime data being published. There is a very large poor population here, and socio-economics is almost always directly related to crime.

El Paso is below the Texas and national averages for property crime, arson, and burglary rates. I attribute window bars to western heritage and not having basements - thus putting the main floor windows at a lower more accessible level.

There is something else to consider, and it could be applied to San Diego as well. El Paso is right across the border from one of the most violent cities in the world, Juarez. Not much of a coincidence when you think about it. There are gangs in El Paso. However, if they want to kill someone, often do so in Juarez, rather than in El Paso. I suspect San Diego might be the same way.

Dallas and Houston, on the other hand, are nowhere near the border,so gangs do alot of killing inside the city limits.
